Born in Wales in 1887, James Dickson Innes was a landscape painter who specialized in mountain scenes. He was educated at Christ College, Brecon and the Carmarthen School of Art before winning a scholarship to the Slade School in London where he stayed for two years.

James Dickson Innes was born in Greenfield Villas, Murray Street, Llanelly, on the 27th February 1887. He was the youngest of the three sons of John Innes (author of ‘Old Llanelly’ published in 1902) and his wife, Alice Anne Mary (née Rees). The family homes were in New Road, and later Old Road, Llanelly.
